Braces

Check braces regularly (at least once a week) for anything loose or bent. If a bracket or band comes loose or you break a wire, please call our office so that we can arrange an appointment long enough to repair it. Be sure to bring to your appointment all broken parts. Try to explain what has happened by using the diagram provided. If you lose your rubber bands, call us so we can mail you some more or drop by the office and pick some up.

Sore Teeth

After braces are placed in the mouth it is normal for the teeth to be sore for about 2 or 3 days. Tylenol, Aspirin or Advil will help relieve this discomfort. Biting or chewing on your Therabite Wafer will increase blood supply to the sore teeth and make them feel better. Some irritation to the cheeks and tongue is normal. Warm salt water rinses can really help these areas. If you feel anything sharp poking you or if any sores are developing, please call our office at 770.993.6292.

Elastics

Elastics or rubber bands are often an important part of orthodontic treatment. They supply the pressure to move the teeth. Therefore, you must carefully follow the instructions you received regarding their placement and use.

Elastics may cause your teeth to hurt a little at first. That's because the teeth are moving, which is our goal. Usually the tenderness lasts only a few days. Not wearing your elastics as instructed will only make the tenderness last longer, and tooth movement will require more time.

Remember

Any time missed in wearing your elastics will only make your treatment take longer, so remember these things:
